case study PETERHEAD, ABERDEENSHIRE, SCOTLAND
client Technip

Concept designs were produced for a new community centre, refurbishment of the Grade B listed Sandford Lodge into a  and a new viewing platform in support of client Technip’s bid to provide front-end engineering design (FEED) for the Peterhead Gas Carbon Capture and Storage demonstration project in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Scheduled as the world’s first commercial gas carbon capture and storage project to be delivered by Shell UK Limited, the architectural proposals seek to provide a series of foundations from which to connect with the public and raise awareness of the carbon capture process and green energy issues.

Conceived as a permanent sculptural form in the landscape, the visitor platform is located on a vantage point over-looking the carbon capture plant with open views out to the North Sea. This is in conjunction with the proposal to retain Sandford Lodge as a local heritage asset and re-purposing for use as an exhibition centre catering for visitors and groups. The third element of the site development proposes a new purpose built community centre including workshops and galleries.
